"Moldy Figs," Chapter 10
And So It Goes, They Sin and Die
And So It Goes, They Sin and Die
Though there were plenty of egregious acts in this man’s history, the most despicable, in my eyes, was his mistreatment of a purebred Golden Retriever he had received as an unwanted gift. Nobody asked this man if he needed a dog or even if he wanted another, seeing as he generally kept a cur at his side. But now the man had no time nor resources to care for an animal. So the animal remained tied up, never walked, and no veterinarian had ever set eyes on him. In due time, after suffering with the facts of neglecting an innocent animal who definitely deserved better, the man took the dog to the local pound. It was hoped the dog could be rescued by a good family. The truth is he never inquired whether or not the neglected animal was ever saved, but to this day the man harbors an eternal shame for doing wrong to an innocent creature who never had a chance, or even a name that might one day matter.
