Have You Been to the Davis Mountains?
Our 2024 summer camping trip out west included a visit to the wonderful Fort Davis area. A complete West Texas surprise given how hot and miserable the temperatures have already been by mid- June. The Davis Mountains did however provide lows in the sixties, and during our stay it rarely got into the mid-eighties by the afternoon. Pretty nice. Plus we found a nice pull-off to shoot a few new pics of Beverly, and as expected, she arose to the occasion.
It is still a wonder to me how she does it, how she reveals what for most of us would be extremely intimate. But her art is very important to her, this shedding of skins, these protective facades, and the revelation that even a seventy year-old woman can remain not only very attractive but seductive as well. It is hoped her photographer has honored her bravery with appropriate justice.
Fact is, we were both raised in pretty strict and oppressive Lutheran households. Occasionally we have been exposed to shaming and judgmental responses aimed at the manner in which we sometimes create our art. But we no longer give much credence to these criticisms society or our American culture might happen to bestow. We aren’t looking for this kind of attention anyway, and actually wish these types would speedily exit our premises. Our space is sacred, as is everyone’s.
A reader’s act in opening any post means an acceptance of the consequences (which I have made known and laid out extensively on this site). A free subscription to the Rogue Literary Society affords the pleasure of reading important and creative book reviews, digressions of every stripe, an original poem at least twice a week, and the occasional nude art photograph as we continue to document Beverly’s aging process.
For over twenty-five years now we have attempted to capture something the eye might find pleasure in. Raw and unfiltered delight in the form of a wonderful model and muse. And to think I have known her for over fifty-two years. And have been married to her for over forty of them.
For those who accidentally clicked on this post, please understand that you didn’t have to do that. You chose to do so. But in order to maintain access to other important book reviews and essays, not to mention some original, though at times esoteric poetry, you’ll have to be subjected to an occasional nude art photograph and story regarding the most important person in my life. We are creating what we hope can benefit others as they explore their own aging process and resultant lack of, or God forbid!, their own emerging sexuality. Subscriptions here are always free. We appreciate your ongoing support but please help us out a bit and buy a book! You’ll be glad you did.
Aging… quite the topic. Appreciating Beverly’s open display through the artist’s eye. Surely helps to have skin that you’re comfortable in. As for me, I have grand scoliosis which collapses my waistline, so, truth is, I wouldn’t feel comfortable modeling nude anymore. I have modeled for sculptors in the past. If I were to photograph or be photographed in a natural setting, which I’m apt to do, it is the connection with the beauty that I engage with, and my body language would revel in its blessed delight. Thank you for sharing your creative medium with intent.
I love this. And I love the way you admire and celebrate the beauty of the aging process, so atypical in our society today. Thank you for sharing these lovely photographs.
